I graduated from Bootcamp during COVID-19, now what?

Another late night at my old office

It was January 6th, when I was a bright-eyed individual, excited to start my first day of boot camp. Prior to this, I worked in the fashion industry where I really questioned my purpose as a buyer every morning as I commuted on the F train. Long story short, I decided to completely pivot from the fashion industry and go into product design. The commitment was hard but, I kept telling myself it’ll be the best investment for my future. However, little did I know a huge storm was brewing from east.

Working at WeWork before the quarantine

The first 6 months of the program was online and the second 6 months was supposed to be on campus. But, towards the end of the first 6th month, my cohorts and I were notified that due to COVID-19, the rest of the program will be held online. I mean, it was the safest way to go about it. With my roommates’ works also becoming remote and our Brooklyn apartment obviously not being spacious like a WeWork, I decided to pack my stuff to go back to Delaware to finish the rest of my program. Me being naive and all, I honestly thought I was only going to be in Delaware for a month—spoiler, I’m still in Delaware right now.

Such a sad morning not knowing when I’d be back

So, why am I writing this? First off, I actually have to so that I can be money-back guarantee eligible if I don’t get a job in 6 months. But also it’s just for me to let people know what it really means to be a Bootcamp student. Behind all the success stories, I think the true hardships that exist aren’t really explained in the Youtube videos and articles. So, I’m going to be very transparent about my experience as well as if or when I get a job as a designer. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to share as well as excited to just look back at these posts to see how everything unfolds.
